Design Approach

Songs for a New World is about snapshots of critical moments in people’s lives. From a women on a ledge to Mrs. Clause and even lovers. For this production we want to create the atmosphere of a piano lounge where these events can take place. This is why I chose Feinstein’s 54 Below piano lounge as my inspiration. The plush seating and tables could provide fun seating in the space. Like 54 Below the seating should be crowded and pushed towards the stage. The stage is nothing special but for this production I want to use Bradley’s inspiration photo of the compass rose as the stage floor. Using the points of the compass to create side stages for isolated moments. Having a semi circle stage allows for all of the audience to have a good view. The colors of the space are warm and inviting with lots of reds and warm wood tones with golden trims. The use of chandeliers and wall sconces to light the room is used more than direct lighting other than what is used for the stage and performers so use of sconces with warm Edison bulbs would enhance the atmosphere.
